Virgin Galactic, the space tourism venture of billionaire entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson, is the first step toward hypersonic travel between Earth-based cities, according to a company executive.
Hypersonic speeds are greater than five times the speed of sound. An aircraft flying that fast could theoretically reach London from New York in less than an hour.

В началото на седмицата холандската фирма Flying Car съобщи, че са
намерени инвеститори за серийно производство на ново транспортно
средство - хибрид между триколесен мотоциклет и летящ апарат, съобщават
от automediapro.com.
От фирмата са показали и прототип на новото транстпортно средство,
което е наречено PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle). За движение по
пътищата PAL-V използва двигател, който може да работи с различни
горива - газ, биодизел или биоетанол.

The U.S. Air Force is preparing to test a new vehicle that could make missiles—and someday, jets—travel ten times faster than those flown today, military officials say. The research vehicle, known as the X-51A, will be able reach hypersonic speeds when it is tested in 2009.
